Information From Concept to Website - How it Works
This guideline has been put together to show the steps we go through from your idea to beginning work on your website. It assumes that you don't already have a website in place.
You have an idea for a travel website but you're not sure where to start? Need some help and advice? You're at step one, all you need to do is follow these steps...
The first thing to do is to take your idea and turn it into a business plan.
a) Set clear, realistic goals for what you want to achieve.
b) Do some research - who else is doing this kind of thing and how are they doing it? How successful are they? What do you like and dislike about it? What key things are important to you in this project?
c) Outline the functions of your website: will it be purely a communication tool, will it take online reservations, or are you thinking of taking online bookings?
d) Also anaylse what resources you already have, and what aspects of the project you are looking for someone to provide. You might have an existing brand you want to use, or perhaps you already have an idea of what technology you want to use.
e) Now supply us with a document outlining all of the above.
The next step is to decide on what technology is required for your website. One of the key questions in making this decision is what kind of website you require.
a) Brochure site (no online booking or reservations)
b) Online reservations
c) Online booking
As a rule of thumb, a brochure site will require a Content Management System; while for online reservations we have a product called TORS (Tour Operators Reservation System), which handles content management and reservations admin; and for online booking a payment processing system is required, such as Comtec's WebSell Pro. However, we are able to offer more detailed travel technology consultation to ensure you have the right product for your requirements, whether it is a Jamber product or an alternative.
This is where we take over, and we do a full assessment of your requirements, and produce a full specification, along with a technical specification if required. This is our document which should be a complete summary of your requirements, and should also give a thorough indication of how this site will work.
Whilst up til now we will have been able to provide you with a rough estimate, once we have the Specification we are able to issue a proposal and quotation. This is your document which tells you exactly what we are going to provide and how much it will cost.
